I am running Windows XP Home on a recent build. The OS is installed on the C:/ partition on the main hard drive. The defrag utility seems to run OK, issues no errors, but says the drive must be defragmented even immediately after defragging.
I even moved the pagefile off the C:\ volume and defragged, and it did not help. Below is the report generated by the defrag program without the pagefile on the volume. It makes no sense to me that it reports files are 39% fragmented and the volume is 19% fragmented when there is only 1 fragmented file on the volume (the MFT).
Can anyone shed some light on this? Could it have something to do with the "excess fragment"? What is that anyway?
Thanks in advance for whatever assistance... Andreos
