Like the title says I decided to do some meaningless rant on why I don't think digg.com will survive unless it goes through some pretty major changes.
Ok so I may receive some backlash from this and seeing I actually have a link to the site as well as a list of the things I've been digging it doesn't make much sense for me to be saying this I'm going to say it anyways. The way digg.com moderates itself and the users that visit the site religiously really have to realize that there is more in the world that Ubuntu Kernel releases, AJAX, lists of vista screenshots and web 2.0 applications. My tendency to visit digg is becoming less and less tempting everyday. It seems like there is always one of these stories on the front page. We got the point the first time and now its time to move over and replace those weak stories with something a little more interesting and important.
Digg should expand its category base if it plans on remaining popular in the world of 'Web 2.0'. By doing this they will open the doors for so many more articles that people want to see but arn't able because of the nature of the site, technology.
Ok so maybe expanding the range of stories isn't the answer. What about limiting stories with similar keywords to be on the front page at the same time. This keeps the front page interesting and not flooded with the latest 10 minute internet trend. The community driven idea is great but its not going to be able to keep up with the demand for newer and more interesting content. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it stands up when it counts.
