Some Americans put the words 'like' or 'you know' into their sentences. Some Indians put the word 'man' at the end of sentences. They are just filler words people get used to saying. Although if you've ever been to Singapore you will realize singlish (singapore-english) goes much further than just saying 'la' at the send of a sentence. They actually had a little campaign in the late 90's to get people to stop using singlish. Dont know how it worked out.
