Why Do People Hate Drones?

You know not really drones, UAC or whatever they call them. The little DJI Phantom ones?

Saw one flying around at Cozumel over the ships. I waved. I'm probably going to be in someone's vlog or whatever. No harm done.

I've seen video and the POV from them. Even UHD video cropped, it's going to be really hard to discern the level of detail that warrants extreme alarmism of privacy, etc.

I think they are cute TBH.

They do make some noise.

Its one of those things that I will never understand. People will get up, abandon their poolside chairs or get out of hot tubs. Ditto when it rains.

I've seen a lot of "hate" on the Internet, but never experienced it in real life. I have a handful of small drones. 100% of the time, people always stop and say whoa cool! Same back when I had my Air Hogs. My big planes require an authorized field to fly in, but my small stuff can be flown at any local park, so they attract quite a bit of attention. I've had people pull over on the side of the road to check it out.

A couple of years ago I was flying my Air Hog airplane & a business guy pulled over. Full-on suit, super nice car, the works. I let him fly for a bit and he was like a kid in a candy store, it was hilarious. I felt like I was on the set of Big or something. R/C stuff is dope!

From what I've gathered, people think drones are spying on them so it's like attacking a prowler or voyeur.

I'm concerned about them losing power and breaking my skull.

I saw them on 60 minutes. The sound of the buzzing closing in would seriously sound fucking scary if you were on the opposing side of those things.

People think consumer grade is similar to the pros, capable of night vision and x-ray through walls. My dji cant even make out faces after 1000ft, even in 4k res. It does make an annoying noise that scares dogs at the parks. Most people don't care or notice since I fly so far away

People like to hate on stuff that's new... and governments seem to always listen to people who complain about silly stuff instead of real issues, so they go and regulate the hell out of them.

What's funny is the people who worry about being spied on by civilian drones don't seem to care about the government and corporate(google etc) spying. Just because you can't see them does not mean they're not there. They are the real threat since they are actually doing something with the information that could be used against you.

I am going to start a kickstarter for a drone that shoot strings at other drones.

Drones... as in UAVs or toy quadcopters? I think that's the biggest problem people have - properly identifying what's what. Just like "assault weapons", people usually have no idea what they're even complaining about. They saw something on CNN about how drone strikes killed 70 people attending a wedding or how a drone took pictures of a woman getting dressed and just assume that whatever buzzing noise they hear is someone either about to kill them or enjoy some nekkid picture time.

Also territorialism. People are frustrated that airspace rules mean that people can fly their remote controlled helicopters over "their" property.

They're too stable!

Why can't their flight be as unstable as previously-existing flying hobby toys!

The irrational fear is why I don't fly my smaller quadcopters often. I'm always worried that someone will be worried that I'm spying on them or some silly crap like that... even if I'm just flying around my back yard. (It's just a Syma X5-C.)

People want to be able to sunbathe nakid without fear of ending up on someone's porn site, or some such privacy concern.

My son got one for Christmas and they are fun, but I can understand people not liking them flying around their back-yard. They are little loud, and no one likes the idea of some unknown sneak taking video of them.

I got a Phantom 3 Advanced for cheap ($330) from Amazon Warehouse Deals. I live in NYC, I don't like to fly it in the city because 1) I also think someone might think something stupid and 2) It is hard and scary flying around so much congestion, plus all the interference reduces the range drastically. But when I visit my brother-in-law in NJ, I like to fly around his apartment complex and at a park near his house. Its fun. You need open space to enjoy the bigger drones. The smaller palm sized ones are mostly indoor or in very calm weather outside.

For the same reason people hate Mayne. They drone on and on and they never go away. Just when you think they've been grounded and you're free of them they pop up behind a tree.
