Why do people hate realplayer?

just the fact it asked me last time do I wish to start it with windows....I said no, and it still started with windows.

I really hate proggies that give you a choice only in jest.

I have been using it for almost a year. It is not at all a bad piece of software anymore but it used to be full of ads and crap in the past and everyone started hating it a long time ago that they will never touch it again despite my note that it is ok to use now. Anyway, I used it because I prefer the sound quality of RM streaming over the same bit rate in WMA and it plays any streaming mp3s that I need.

It may still do spying (I wouldn't be able to tell) and after you close it, it pops up ballons from the toolbar but this is not 5% as annoying as it used to be 3 years ago.

RealPlayer Alternative is nice. But you still need RealPlayer to stream sites that require RealPlayer.

Simply put, it's bloatware and it's spyware. And it also is pretty crappy performance-wise.

Ah yes, Real Message Center. A wonderful little piece of software that can't be disabled without a huge PITA.

I use Quicktime/Real alternative for quicktime/real streams. Realplayer freezes often, hardly ever does what I want to do, has ads. I consider Realplayer almost as wrong as Windows media player. At least it doesn't mess up my file associations.

exactly. mainly bloated. 10x the amount of features you need. most are junk anyway. i hate real. i install, watch file, then uninstall ASAP.

I even deleted all mentions of HSV from my registry file and it still got me. Norton protection is not 100% effective!

Real is too bloated. Well was last time I used it, plus spyware.

Too bad it is the only format that has the best support for SMIL, next to Quicktime.
