why don't motherboards go faster?

i see all this high speed RAM for sale nowadays...what kind of systems does it go in? (DDR2, or even normal DDR-PC3700 and higher)

why doesn't some company release a special board that supports normal 939 athlons, but can run stable at very high FSB speeds with high speed RAM and high voltage (i.e, i guess they mess up their internal multiplier on purpose). i think it would sell like mad, and would get around the 'locked' chips you can't oc cuz the board would support high FSB speeds to get around the lock.

First of all, with AMD 64s, the Ram divider provides a 0% performance hit. A 1.8 GHZ Venice Oced to 2.4 GHZ will perform exactly the same as a 2.4 GHZ venice with the native 12 multiplier. Second of all, there is no ram currently that can get past 350 FSB for DDR without sacraficing BIG in timings.

Uh... DDR700 is extremely rare and I myself have never seen it.

A 3000+ overclocked to 2.4GHz will outperform a 3800+ Venice by a little bit due to a faster bus speed even though they would both be clocked at 2.4GHz.

Also, the integrated mem controller on the A64s makes it hard/impossible to add support for faster RAM. You won't ever see DDR2 support for the current 939/940/754 procs because of this.

hm...what does the ram divider do? i assume its only on A64 motherboards?

i was wondering why they don't just support PC4200 ram on these motherboards. by support i mean, make sure the motherboard can handle the higher voltages in stock form. so it basically overclocks the CPU to the limit, without hurting the ram/motherboard first.
