I think Tazers are fine, but we need some standardized national system of accountability for the proper use of force, that includes penalties severe enough to keep police doing their job properly instead of lazily. As it is, the police code pretty much guarantees that unless you are INSANELY evil, like walking up to 4 year olds at preschool and pumping them full of hollow-points to the forehead, that they can get away with virtually ANYTHING and get away clean. At most, they get PAID leave. Assholes. With accountability, there would probably be a lot fewer of these 'incidents'.

The lethality of any weapon can be dependant on the person weilding it. For instance, I have a cup, and I could kill you with it.

I think a semi-auto beanbag gun would be much more fun for the officers.

Heaven forbid an officer get hurt when he's trying to taze a 40 year old mental patient who falls 10 feet and dies!

It doesn't matter what you give them, there will be cops who abuse it or use it without thinking and get someone killed.

Why not give them accountability.

unfortunately that would take real leadership and courage.
something that sorely lacks in our current political climate.
unfortunately we get these lame-brain arguments:
criminals aren't accountable, so why should the police be accountable as well?!
