The OP brings up a good point... for some reason IE centers the table, and the text within the table, when only the text within the table is coded to be centered. FireFox only centers what's coded to be centered.

Which is correct? Find me something that says when the text within a table is centered, the table should be centered too. Till then I will believe that only things coded to be centered should in fact be centered. If it is not coded to be centered, it should align right as the default.

you mean left

Right... err... uhh... correct... lol

I can't do anything about the cunts who complained to you. And it sucks because it doesn't render things correctly? Does that automatically file Netscape under "sucks" too?

Hey UnixFreak, aren't you the guy whose website got owned because you were too lazy to update phpBB despite there being a known exploit in the wild?

Oh, the irony.

Excerpt from "Cascading Style Sheets: The Definitive Guide" (Chap. 6, pg 130) :
Although you may be tempted to believe that text-align: center is the same as the < CENTER > element, it's actually quite different. < CENTER > affected not only the text, but also centered whole elements, such as tables. text-align does not control the alignment of elements, only their inline content. Figure 6-5 illustrates this clearly.

I urge you to please look at Figure 6-5.

Did you make a account just to pwn the OP?

Looks like he did. :beer::thumbsup:

God, the OP is dumb as fsck. Someone posted on his forums a pic of EVERY other browser rendering the page left-aligned and he is still insisting he is right. He's like the Iraqi Information Minister of coding.

http://www.messedup.net/forums/ftopic2361.html

PS: His crappy pr0n site renders horribly under everything but IE. He's probably PO's he worked all night on it and the wankers that go there can't see anything. Self ownage!

What version of Unix are you running? Don't see too many Unix flavors that have IE installed......

Some version of HP unix we had at campus had IE installed. It sucks more on unix then windows. I think it was version 5.0.

They did make a Solaris native version of IE.
Didn't know they had one for HP-UX too, but hey, why not.

Running IE under WINE is a complete PITA by the way.

2. Just about the only browser without mousegestures is IE, and with the Maxthon plugin you have them in IE too.

I've tried to stray from Opera but the mouse gesture plugins for all other browsers are absolutely terrible.

I used to be THE maxthon fanboi. Seriosuly. I wrote up a huge thread in Software about it.

I changed to Firefox. I need the auto-fill in information onlogin screens, mouse gestures that show up on the screen, bookmarks tucked in the corner...

anyways, I'm sure if you tried FF you'll like it.. Took me two installs to actually keep FF at first. First time I unintalled and went back to Maxthon.

Example IId.

The <div> is styled with text-align.
foobar Some dummy text here.

This example is frequently given (incorrectly) as the way to center a table in CSS. This table was centered by MSIE5, MSIE6, and NS4, but not by MacIE5, Opera (ver. 5?7), Safari, Mozilla or NS6.1. The table cell contents are centered by MSIE6, Op7, Mozilla, and NS6.1

Oh dear.
Oh dearie dearie me. Looks like your HTML skills need some work, UnixFreak.

I don't know but I doubt it is IE6. I would have to guess maybe IE4 or IE5/5.5

I use FF because it's not made by Microsoft and that alone keeps me happy.

That is not a good reason...

Uhhh....competition to MS and a free one at that is a DAMN good reason,or does anyone REALLY think IE is free?? I like FF because of its absolute superior pop up box protection. You can get alll the pop up blockers in the world and you'll still have that annoying crap in IE.

You don't use something just for the sake of helping out the underdog, you use something because you think it's better. Otherwise, what's the whole point of competition?

quit saying pwned...it isnt even close to that.

Why don't you actually try reading the thread first next time.

The code he is using is indeed standard code, but is meant to only center the text. IE does it wrong by also centering the table, but Firefox does it correctly.

Basically he is owning himself by claiming IE does it correctly and Firefox is wrong.

i read the entire thread, his page, and the other forum as well. dont accuse me of not reading it until you ask.

I use FF (real reason) for the pop-up blockers and security. I thought it was much easier to set up when I first started using it, and I've since had much less spyware to remove from my system. It also feels warm and fuzzy.

I have to say this again. I use IE and have NEVER had spyware on my systems. My GF uses IE and has never had any on her's either.

I have made this challenge over and over and I'll make it again. Send me to a site that puts spyware on my system against my will and without my knowledge.

Just one.

To date, no one can.

Learn to write before writing articles. Your first paragraph contained so much poor grammar that I'm not even going to bother with the rest.

If you read the entire thread, did you also happen to see the posts that showed exactly why he's wrong?
He obviously doesn't know CSS as good as he thinks.
