If the XBOX2 is based on a modded G5 chip, then would that mean that we could run XBOX2 games on a PMG5 or iMac G5 w/ or w/o a little bit of emulation?

A lot of this sounds like some of the things people were saying when Microsoft announced the Xbox. 'but they're a software company' (and apple's a hardware company, giving them more of an advantage) 'they can't break into the market dominated by Sony, Sega, and Nintendo' etc... However, I don't think Apple intends to break into that market. But who knows, maybe with the right killer app... I'm thinking Breakout Online.

I don't think Apple has the financial muscle to do all three.

FYI, the Xbox still sells at a loss, getting a foot into the console market is a very expensive goal for MS. I doubt they have made much (if any) money at all from the Xbox, but they want the marketshare, to milk it later.

Actually, Microsoft finally managed to turn a profit with the Xbox..

The dangerous thing about Microsoft is that they have the resources to do things that smaller companies like Apple would never dream of doing.

i honestly think it would take alot of work to be competitive with sony and microsoft, they are well versed in the console market, sony especially. not sure whats happenign with nintendo, but they are literal veterans of the market. with sony and microsoft taking sides with ATi and Nvidia the console race has gotten even harder. its almost like the best of the best now. IBM are making the CPU's which is there speciality since they invented the PC, Nvidia/ATi are making the graphics solutions, again these two have been going at it hammer and tongs for ages, the competition would overwhelm apple.

having said that, if apple did release a console, id hope theyed at least get backing from a major graphics company, seems thats whats needed if you want to be competitive. and im giving no prizes away for guessing that apples attempt will win the style wars. so people would probably buy it because its a applemac and it'd look much more stylish than other consoles

but i dont think they have the expertise or the knowdledge to jump right in there now. they have the mac mini (which even got me looking at macs) and thats all they need right now

True, but Photoshop would be available and run faster than a PC. However, who wants to use Photoshop with a Gamepad?

Wrong.
The console will have the new Dual-Core PowerPC CPU (IBM=chip maker, Apple=your sticker vendor)

I would say the reason there's no Apple console system is that they know no one would want to pay $500+ for a console whose graphical performance MIGHT rival the playstation 1, given the level of technology Apple puts out and the amount of money they charge for it.

The new Mac Mini could have been sold as a console, but it's barely more powerful than an Xbox and costs $300 more. All it needs are RCA outputs. It could use USB as the controller ports.

Hi, my name is FishTaco and I switched from Xbox to Ibox. I used to have trouble with all the games available on the Xbox, there were just so many. Now that I've got my new Ibox (MSRP $1500) I don't have that problem, the included game of Tetris is very fun and I love that the aqua and brushed metal skins just makes my Tetris experience that much better. Also the Xbox controller was very confusing with all it's buttons and sticks, I love my new Ibox controller with it's single button. Thanks Apple.

PS: I eagerly await the next game to be released for my Ibox, the Ibox OS update (MSRP $300) it'll make Tetris even better by adding a new skin.

On macs, you use firewire for iPods, and there's a firewire port on the mini.
