Why the OC problems?

Alright, I followed the steps in Zebo's sticky and am having problems bringing it all together.

I can get the CPU to 2.4 when I have the divider memory at 1/2 all the way down.

I haven't run memtest since I don't have a floppy on this computer, so I figured I would just run a 5/6 divider so it is effectively operating at 200. Well, that didn't work. My PC runs windows for a second and then reboots.

So, I tried running the CPU at 2.2 and the divider at 9/10. This time it goes into windows, but it doesn't respond well. The ATI control center won't come up and Far Cry just plays off.

Any recomendations or comments? I am thinking perhaps the memory is the problem, but I am not certain. Thanks for any insight.

Alright, I stopped reading when it said floppy.

Anyways, the memory tested fine to 210. It failed test 6 at 215.

So, I should be able to keep the ram at 200 with dividers when I bump up the CPU. But it doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?

If by 200 you mean 1:1 ratio?? I saw you mentioned 1/2 up above...What does that mean?? 100 for memory divider???

If you read zebos guide you know to isolate then consolidate, right???

Test 5 and 6 are common to fail on A64's..

No.

I put it on a 5/6 divider with 240 attempting to make the memory run at 200.

It failed.

Yes, I read the guide. No problems until I attempted to consolidate. I was able to get CPU to 2.4GHz and the memory to 210 in isolation. However, if I try to run the CPU at even 2.2GHz (220 x 10 multiplier) and the memory at right around 200 (220 x 9/10 divider) together it runs like garbage. I can't load certain programs, etc.

You got a 10/9 divider??? What mobo???

Have you tried messing with the timings??? I would avboid any x,2,2,6 timings...seems like this takes a lot of vdimm to achieve....

I would run 4,4,10 with cas 2 or 2.5, whatever you ram is spec'd at.....I would also run with 2.7+ vdimm.....Rmember this is an on-die memory controller and amd's way it works is a bit funky.....It often times take more vcore at the same speed you got to work with a lower ram divider to work with a ram divider that gives you higher ram speeds....I have seen it!!!

It's the DFI NF4 Ultra-D.

I have the vdimm set to 2.9v and the timings when I did it were 3-3-3-7; the motherboard automatically went with 2.5-3-3-7 which failed as well.

I think I am first going to flash an updated bios and then loosen the timings per your advice if that does do it.

Do you think I am correct in suspecting the memory as the culprit?

i have the same motherboard and i notice that you have not said anything about the ltd*fsb setting in the bios... turn that down to 3-4 then try...this seemed to have worked for me

Your memory should be able to do 215... Did you try giving the dimm more volts?

I have 2x256 Pc-3200 Kingston value ram@default volts and I have her running@225mhz thats DDR450 =).

My Sandra memory scores are: 6431/6368 its KICKEN LIKE CHICKEN! hehe

Also you might try a diff Bios for you mobo.
Good luck keep us posted.

I think I am going to RMA the memory.

I just ran memtest again at 2.5, 4, 4, 10 as suggested by Duvie at 210 (2.9v) and I get errors all over the place (right now I am looking at the screen of the computer and it is 73% done with test 8 and there are 71,663 errors).

That doesn't seem right to me.
