Now, since there are people in this thread who don't have DVD drives, I'll ask the question, why not? Every system you buy from dell these days come with them standard, what reason do you have for not having one? They cost less than a good mouse these days.

I'll just say, I am EXTREMELY tired of installing 5 game CDs. I hate the multi-CD cases, I hate the install procedure, I hate the boxes. I want DVDs and DVD cases . Pop a case open, grab a DVD and go. This is coming from someone who has bought nearly every collectors edition available, it is becoming somewhat expensive.

i don't b/c I have own built and havent upgraded cd burner to dvd burner b/c i dont have the need that mass storage and games dont come on DVD's

Not only does Europe get DVDs for practically every new game(Ut2k4, Far Cry, HL2) as the standard format, but they also get some great games(Mercedes Benz World Racing, Richard Burns Rally, Trains, and others) that North America never sees. It's a conspiracy I tell you!!

Also I heard that Europe will also get the cd version in a few weeks, could mean that the US will get the dvd version then as well.

It wasn't 50 floppies. More like 14, or maybe 18. I have a copy around here someplace..

Edit: I wonder if perhaps, the reason for the CD-based physical distribution in the US, was because V.U. had some sort of contract deal with CD copy-protection technology companies, and they didn't have a solution for DVD-based copy-protection in place at the time? Seems strange that they would even bother with physical-level copy-protection with the requirement for activation by Steam even with purchased retail box copies though. Is the multi-CD version in fact, copy-protected? Is the DVD version?

I don't see why i should have to pay a lot extra to get a simple DVD.


It's ghay, totally ghay, & i still don't get why it would be too hard to release a CDs version, a DVD version, & a DVD ultra expensive collectors version.
