Yah...was thinking about having her get a tubal ligation. I dunno... I do work for pretty much every physician office in town...would be weird to get it snipped locally since I already have a professional relationship with the docs that do it.

A vasectomy is a much easier procedure than tubal ligation until she gets a c-section for the kid and has her tubes tied at the same time.

Stories like this are a reminder of why I wrap it up even if a woman is on birth control. The pill is reliable but it's not perfect and the failure rate is a little scary.

Both of my kids were surprises.

...and they just keep on surprising me every year!

"Dad, I need braces!"
"Dad, I need $150 for Air Jordans!"
"Dad, I need all of your money for every possible scenario you can possibly imagine..."

If I ever had a "surprise" like that I'd start cooking up a lot of green papayas...

Then again I'm not married.

I'm 41, married, and have no kids. We never really wanted them either but recently, I think my wife has started to change her mind.

1945-1933 = 12

You have the math right. He was 6 when the German blitzkrieg invaded Czechoslovakia. His home town, Stara Ves n Ondr was in the Sudeten land and was one of the first to be taken. He didn't "serve" in WWII. He lived through it as a child.

Why are yall having kids so late in life?

Personal choice. Many folks (like myself) decided to have fun and build their careers during their 20s, and put off the decision to have kids until later. In my case, we wanted to have our first in our late 20's. Mother nature didn't cooperate, however, and it took almost 3 years for us to conceive our son. All that "touch a girl and she'll get pregnant" stuff from middle school was just a bunch of hooey, if you ask me.

I am 32 and have 3 of the best surprises I have ever had. But I do think I am untrendy. My wife's older sister had her first 2 years ago, and she was the youngest in some type of 'first time mother's training class' she went to.

Down's Syndrome FTL!

I've noticed on Facebook that a lot of people from my high school class (I'm 28) are popping out kids right about now. People I knew from college seems to be waiting longer.

Cool. I love my kids and cannot imagine life without them. A new addition will be fine...but we have idyllic lives and change is a little hard (even if it is for the better.)

That's the thing about planning. It never really happens the way you want it to.

I wouldn't consider 31 a late in life thing for having another. I'm 35, and have a 2 year old and we are considering having another.

Some people I graduated high school with (class of 2005) have already had two kids and a divorce... lol

However I agree, even at my age, 25, I am seeings lots of babies on Facebook. I think couples are getting bored.

Because having a kid isn't something you decide to do on a whim. You have a kid when you can properly take care of them.

People who post personal things like that on the internet shouldn't be offended when others comment on it.

Seems that you're the only one that really has a problem with it. Nobody else cares.

30 isn't late. I don't think that either of us was ready until it happened. my wife was setting up her career and I was still debating a drastic career change. i guess we just weren't mature enough yet. it is a ton of responsibility and we only get one chance not to screw it up. i'm glad we waited until we were in a good position in life.

Heh. I was 31 when we had our 4th kid. 33 when we had our 5th.

I'm done now. If my wife ends up pregnant again, then I'll have every right to ask "Lucy, you got some 'splainin to do!"

I'd get snipped yourself, it's much safer.

Oh yeah and no surprises in my own family, but in my wife's family, both my wife and her younger sister were "accidents" (their mom was on the pill but knowing her mom she probably forgot to take it half the time). They're only 14 months apart in age.

And a friend of my mom was happily married with two children with no desire to have another, and then they had an accident and got twins. Fun!

If I had an oops baby and it turned out to be twins, or more, the next 18 years would be a groaner.

It's better to have have a great dad for 20 or 30 years than a lousy one for a lifetime. My dad is a very good father, they'll do just fine.

Yep... just became a dad in January and I'm 45.... 45 is only old if your 18:whiste:
