WiFi on an old laptop

We have this fairly old Gateway Solo 3100. To give you an idea of how old it is, it runs a Pentium II processor. We know it has a wireless adaptor and all that jazz because at one point it had Windows XP on it, and the wireless worked fine. The problem was that the computer was SUPER slow. There wasn't even enough RAM left to install QuickBooks. So today my boyfriend decides he's going to fix up the little old laptop for my little brother. He installs Windows 98 on it. The laptop runs much better now; however we can't figure out how to make the WiFi work again...
Help?

Did you install the drivers for the WiFi card? More than likely you can do a search online for the drivers you will need.

Hey Kalyad4, I think I may know what the problem is. I don't think it was working with XP so much as it was working correctly with whatever router was being used at the time. The Gateway Solo 3100 has a Infrared port that can be used to connect to the internet so unless the router you're trying to get it to run on now supports IR then I don't believe it will work.

P.S. Or you could just get a WiFi card to put into your laptop.

Um everyone please ignore this thread. My boyfriend and I are retarded haha....
Turns out my little bro didnt leave the little wifi card in there, so we were trying to connect to the wifi router without the card....
