Will CUSL2 accept 2pcs 256MB PC133?

Hi,

My MSI 694D Pro-AR is a joke. So I'm thinking of
purchasing a CUSL2 for my P3 933 ans 2x256MB PC133.

Is CUSL2 okay with 2pcs of 256MB PC133?

Yes,you are limited to only 2 sticks of PC 133,but can fill all 3 dimms with PC 100.Something to do with the 815 chipset not liking it.

Actually, I filled Abit SE6 (i815) with three PC133 sticks (two single sided and one double sided) and run them at 133Mhz CAS3 without any problem. You can manually force 133Mhz memory speed even with 3 slots filled with Abit SE6, and I think you can do the same with Asus board.

The ASUS CUSL2 board is known as the only board that can run all 3 DIMM slots at 133MHz CAS2, even though the i815E chipset is only supposed to run a maximum of 2 DIMMs at 133MHz.

It should have no problems with 2 sticks of PC133 256MB, make sure that it is not ECC SDRAM, though.

I could not check my three sticks running together at 133Mhz CAS2 as they do not run at the speed even used as single .

However, I am positive that Andy is right.

If you have difficulty running either large amounts of RAM or large DIMMs on the CUSL2, you should try setting SDRAM Driving Strength to Strong in the BIOS. That usually gets rid of most running and instability problems.

well, somehow i think i815e are a bit sensitive to memory. the se6 doesn't like corsair memory for once.

but the cusl2 is the best, take all kind of memory and able to run 3 dimms at 133 cas2 no problem at all
the abit sh6 is also good, tried it and it takes 3 128mb dimms running at 133 cas3 stably.

I really appreciate all the inputs.
I just bought CUSL2-C, replacing my MSI 694D Pro-AR.

Now, I can't get to POST and NO VIDEO + short beep.
Short beep means successful POST right, but I got
nothing on the monitor. Please HELP me... I'm already
frustrated w/ this.

I already tried a lot of things... removing battery, processor..
turning it on w/out the processor...etc...etc. but still
the same.

- CUSL2-C
- 2pcs 256MB PC133 (Micron - how would I know if this is Micron?)
- GeForce2 MX (Hercules)
- Antec SX830

Now I am just trying the POST, I have the Floopy drive connected,
the keyboard.... they all light up.... the fan....works.. etc.

What's my problem here? I tried going to BEST BUY diagnose
but they are helpless... helpless in a sense that they did not
even try replacing parts w/ their own working parts... as what
suppose to be DIAGNOSING.

Silly question, but you are sure your monitor works and that you have plugged into the video out of the MX? Only 1 beep is a normal post. 3 beeps indicates video, endless beeps indicates RAM, absolutely nothing is usually the processor.

I have no problems running 3 128meg PC133 modules (Mosel Vitalic Rev.2) all double sided...

I think it's the VIDEO!!!
my OEM Hercules GeForce2 MX 32MB is defective.
I tried my RAM in my friend's A7V... It was fine.
Then I tried my Video card.... nothing
on the monitor.

I was right... single beep on CUSL2 must meen
good POST. Now I don't know how can I get an RMA
since 7 days passed already.

But I want to make it sure first if it's the video card.
I will try it later in another working mobo.

yeah, it's not like you don't want something. if it is the board that is having the problem, the 15% charge seems unreasonable... maybe you can directly contact asus for that...

I cant even get 1 stick of PC133 256 MB to work correctly... It identifies it as 128MB. The memory works fine in my VIa 133A Mobo... what a bunch of cr_p!!!! Asus wont reply to my emails

spotch: is that RAM ECC? If so, a 256MB DIMM will usually be detected as 128MB, although it works fine on a VIA based motherboard.

I have an Asus CUSL2 with a P3 700 and a Voodoo5 5500 PCI card. This truley has to be THE BEST system I have ever run. I am behind Voodoo cards 100% because I use them in every system I build an never once have had a bad card or driver conflict. If it were my choice? I would go with the Voodoo5 5500 pci card, as it runs sweetly with the i815 chipset. Benchmarks may show better with different cards, but for compatibility issues alone I would go voodoo. And before someone begins to try and start a "videocard pissing match," save your breath....Yeh I know they're gonna stop making their own cards. But ever since I've started down the road to understanding computers I have always used voodoo chipped video cards...Just a personal preference.

OH MY GOD!!!

It's not my VIDEO CARD! I tested mg GeForce2 MX on
another board, it's ok!

DIMM is OK.
GeForce card is OK.
I tested my P3@933 on CUSL2-C and 694D Pro-AR... no POST.

I think my P3@933 CPU is trashed? Or do you think it's
my ANTEC SX830 300W casing? Or I'm not doing it right?

What I did:
- put the RAM
- connect the VIDEO + monitor (turn it on of course)
- connect a FLOPPY DRIVE (w/c is not really necessary for POST, right?)
- connect my keyboard

Fan, Drive is running... short beep on CUSL2-C w/c mean GOOD, but no VIDEO.
Same thing in 694D Pro-AR... nothing on VIDEO... So is it my processor?

Hmmm... wonder if you need a bios flash to recognize the 933... at least in your old board. Make sure the pins at the bottom of the cpu are all ok, too. Good luck!
