I was looking into this drive:

Which says here:

At the bottom of the page:

****
Fitment Notice:
The Pioneer BDR-S13UBK Internal BD / DVD / CD Writer's larger than usual front dimensions may not fit some 5.25 inch drive slots, meaning this drive may not fit in your Case.

Please confirm the dimensions of your Case's 5.25 inch drive slot(s) before purchasing this Pioneer Drive.

Drive Dimensions: 148 x 42.3 x 181mm / 5-13/16 x 1-21/32 x 7-1/8 inches
*********

And this is the drive I am currently using: the GGW-H20L:

My case is the

Carbide Series 200R
CC-9011023-WW

While this LG fits, what I can't tell is if this Pioneer drive will. Is there a way to find out? I checked a less expensive Pioneer model, the BDR-212DBK, and it seems the size is almost the same:

DIMENSIONS:
148 mm x 42.3 mm x 180 mm (W x H x D)

If the Pioneer one is 181 mm deep and the current LG one is 185 mm deep (if my Googling was correct), I don't see why the Pioneer wouldn't fit.

Wouldn't the problem be the height in this case? Is Pioneer making larger than usual drives? I never heard of this until now, and since this CORSAIR case was cheap, I am afraid that if the W/H is different, it will not fit. Just the fact this warning was put in the page, it makes me suspicious of that.

The GGW-H20L (which is an old drive just like this case) has

146 x 41.3 x 185 mm
W x H x D

Source:

While the BDR-S13UBK:

148 mm(W)×42.3 mm(H)×181 mm(D) / 5-13/16 in.(W)×1-21/32 in.(H)×7-1/8 in.(D)

So, this means the newer drive is a few millimeters bigger.

The problem it it's not depth. Is it?

This is how the old drive is currently installed:

So where do I measure to check if a new drive would fit there?

Usually it's the depth that would be the issue, such as another component or case piece that sits directly behind the drive. There are really only 2 types of optical drives for height: slim and standard, so as long as you're replacing a standard drive with a standard drive, you would only need to worry about the depth.

The W and H are rather "standard". Wikipedia writes:
> Half-height drive bays are 1+5⁄8 inches (41.3 mm) high by 5+3⁄4 inches (146.1 mm) wide, and are the standard

Why would any case have non-standard bays and why does Pioneer use non-standard size?

it looks like a standard 5 1/4 bay drive.
So yes it should fit... unless you a depth issue, which do not exist anymore as most PSU's are now mounted on the bottom of the case and not the top like they originally were.
