Had no idea that the final would be so close, and I can't imagine how it feels for Roddick (who has one major win.... 6 years ago) to get so close to having another and then losing it to the guy youve lost countless big matches to. Federer really has Roddicks number. I would bet, that had Federer not been playing these past years, Roddick would have more than a couple extra slam titles.

I only hope though, that Nadal plays at the US and Federer beats him. Otherwise I foresee people downplaying his accomplishments.

True. It is impossible to call Federer the greatest Tennis player ever when he has a losing record against Nadal in Grand Slam finals

What a choke by Roddick. To play that well and then lose on 4 unforced errors.

Seriously man, the word "choke" is used too often Choking is not losing an epic match against a man who has a 18-2 winning record against you. He just lost to a great player who is better than him, no shame in that.

roddick tightened up a bit on his last game but i will give him a free pass since it was 30 games in the 5th set alone... it takes nerves of steel to go as far as both did in this match

History was made, wow what a beast. I'm pretty sure he's going to get at least 20 majors by the time he retires.
I doubt that. Federer wanted 15; I think he might play another year, but he knows the importance of going out on top. I think he'll top out at 17.

I agree with the guess of 20 majors. Federer will play another three years at least. He wants to compete in the 2012 Olympics, which will be played at Wimbledon. He's not going to retire for two years and get rusty. The man wants a gold medal in Olympic singles badly.

Keep in mind that most of Federer's losses to Nadal were on clay where Nadal had ruled for 5 years straight. He is 9-2 vs Federer on clay, which is clearly Federer's weakness and he's only won 1 French Open on clay (this year). However, we were quick to call Sampras the greatest ever and he NEVER won the French.Open.ever. In fact, Sampras never even made it past the semi's on clay. So comparatively speaking, Federer is the greatest ever because he not only surpassed Pistol Pete's Grand Slam total but also won the French Open, something no other human being has ever done.
