win 98 ram

I just bought a second stick of mushkin rev 2 ram (256M) giving me 512 total.
several people have told me they think win 98 will only use up to 256.
This possibility didnt occur to me as I thought the days of maximum usable ram
limits went away with win 95 and/or certain older chip sets. Can anyone enliten
me?
