HI, this isnt a question, but a comment. WIN ME IS A PIECE OF CRAP!!!! I bought a new comp with Win ME ,and it has been nothing but trouble. Constant crashes, especially when playing video games, and trying to exit games such as UT, it locks up, and is always having problems with the display modes. Just wanted to vent. L8r

It's not just you. WinME is buggy...more so than any MS release of recent years.

Heck, one of Gateway's offical fixes is to load Win98SE on their machines as WinME isn't quite there yet.....hehehe...

I am not trying to dis either one of you but I have had no problems with ME except GPF's with IE and Kernal32.dll. What hardware are you all running this on?

I know that there are always going to be problems no matter what version of ANY OS you use. My experience is that Me has been the most stable. And yes, I understand that there are some people that will say '95 was the most stable.

Same here /// No problems with me except for slow updates from other manufacturers to give good software and drivers for stuff that ran on SE.. but so far that is improving. You might as well get used to it.. Me will not be replaced by another SE

Not to disrespect Microsoft (because it's not an easy task, releasing an OS for a piece of machinery that comes in thousands of different flavours), but I don't think there was every anything wrong with MS-DOS. I'm not an expert, but it was the most stable OS I have ever used!

Well certainly the most simple programs with the least complexity in programs would have to be more stable. I believe people just expect too much for a few bucks or are just too impatient to figure out how to make it work..if it doesnt plug and play they are highly frustrated.. Try installing all these modern programs into win 3.1..LOL

IMHO, WinMe sucks up resources and has too many "dumbed down" wizards that take over your system.

When I first got WinMe I thought it was the devil in disguise.:| One thing that got me the most was my mouse. I have a Microsoft intellimouse explorer. The software for it wouldn't install. It said my software came out before the operating system did and I needed to upgrade the software. You would think that a microsoft product would support a microsoft product. LOL Anyways after about a couple days of tweaking my system I have absolutely no problems with WInMe.. It's too bad that microsoft can't release an operating system that is constantly in need of patches. But I guess with all the different combinations of hardware/software it can't be done. Looks like we'll always be in a constant beta testing program with Microsoft.

I installed ME on a PC on my network. It has been 100% stable. My son plays games, esp. Q3A, surfs the net, writes papers in Word 2000, builds web pages, etc. without a SINGLE crash or error.

juggalo4life - I think you're been too quick to blame ME for a different problem. What PC did you buy? Sounds like it's not configured properly to me.

It's not so much the operating system itself that's buggy, MS writes decent code. The chief problem within 98, 98se and ME is the "web integration" theory of having IE constantly integrated into every operation of the OS. IE isn't the most stable platform out there, as you already know, and is the reason behind 90% of the crashes.

I just finished a CompEng. internship here at school with MS, and the campus rep spent most of our group debriefing bashing IE!

Another reason for mass instability is tweaking. As a stand-alone OS, ME does a fine job. Start loading all sorts of new threads (system tweaks, hardware settings, multimedia tweaks, and those registry keys meant to speed up your system you find EVERYWHERE!!!), and you're going to find yourself spending as much time in maintainance as use of the system.

All things taken into consideration, I'm running a Linux/ME machine (need ME for games!). ME has never crashed or BSOD'd on me; I've also never loaded anything more than 1) tweakUI, 2)98lite (to deintegrate IE from the shell), and 3)nvmax.

If you begin encounteringn problems, the best thing I found during the internship was 98lite. Every 98 or ME station we used was 98lite'd to death with no operational problems and up-times of a week at a time.

That's about it.

Time for class.

HawkeyeColt - It's not ME that requires the patches...it's IE that requires constant patching...
