whats the deal with this?
i heard you cannot buy it, but that microsoft makes you buy a new key for like 20 bucks a year.

any truth to this? or how does it work, and is it really expensive like 2k was?

Nobody knows for sure right now. In is still in Beta. There will be work arounds for it if you look hard enough. We will just have to wait till later this summer to see what they decide to do.

If Microsoft does go through with having people buy keys every year and having to call a CSR for upgrading your hardware then I'm going to be running Win2k for a long time. Could this be downfall for the Roman Empire? I mean Microsoft...??

how about: no significant new improvements over win2k, a really stupid licensing scheme, spyware, and (best of all) lots of retarded extra graphics which are completely unnecessary to "give it a better look."

minimum system requirements? the beta requires at least a PIII w/ 192M. that's minimum.

not looking too good here. i think "the buck stops here" for me with MS OS software. hopefully we'll see some serious development with other platforms before the end of the year.

I think XP is going to be a big flop. Call MS everytime I change a
M/B or H/D? Gimme a break.
Everytime I go on the web the OS connects to MS to make sure it's me
using the OS. Come on.
We don't need another BIG BROTHER! We already got Uncle Sam!

I'm building a new computer in the summer of 2002, and there's no way I'm putting Win XP on it if all of this privacy invading stuff is still in it at that time. The computer is going to be used until atleast 2006-2007, so I may be one of the few people in 2007 still running Win2K and Win98SE.
