win2k hang at boot? HELP,

hello all, my recently assembled 1.2ghz athlon system, with win2k has a nasty little habbit. When i wake up in the morning and boot it (cant leave it on with fop 38 ) it boots everything, gets past the splash screen. Yet, when it reaches that blue screen where it says loading personal preferences and checking internet connections it hangs. Then i push the restart button and let it reboot it goes in just fine. Double booting is getting annoying. Any ideas?

1.2ghz athlon
abit kt7 raid
45 gig 75gxp
tnt2 ultra (detonator 3 drivers)
256 mb pc 133 kingston valueram
sony cdrom
hp burner
western digital 10.2 gig
soundblaster live value

Thats about it, anything you can think of would be greatly appreciated.

Weird, that's the SAME exact problem I have with my dual 550 tyan tiger 133 setup w/win2k! Cold boot it just sits at the blue screen, then if you reboot w/reset switch it boots fine.

man, it sucks huh? I mean its not that bad, the 1.2 boots win2k quick as all hell. I guess its comforting that its not just my comp. Thanks for the input atleast. Anyone else? suggestions?

problem could be in one of three areas: flakey power supply, motherboard, or video. personally I would check with abits page to see if they have anything about it, such as a bios update or suggestion from their faq. Prime canidate would be the video card. I have an early edition of the tnt2 (diamond v770) that blue screens on a regular basis with win2k. could be the same/similar issue. not related completely to the os, but rather what happens during hw initialization by the os.

thats an idea, ill check abit faqs. However i just updated my bios to the latest beta, and everything works fine. My inclination would be the video card since alot of people have problems with tnt2u and the d3 drivers. Setidude, do you have a tnt2?

Yep, that machine has a Creative TNT2Ultra with Det 3s

My other machine, celery 600@810 with a geforce 2 gts doesnt have this problem.

My machine does this too! Anyone know any problems related to the abit bx133-raid or the else geforce2.
Also, how can I test for a flakey ps. Mine is a generic 300watt, but I dont think Im using that much even.

hrm, im thinking video here. Perhaps some of the other users could help to recommend what driver builds would be best suited for the tnt2 ultra in win 2k. I have heard of much success with the 5.31 set.

Check Win2k HCL list, then remove/reinstall the offending hardware and/or update the driver if needed.

Or, try using your Event Viewer in your system log to see which hardware/software is causing your problem.

Goto: Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > [then check the Logs for error]

just installed the 5.31 drivers. Shut off comp completely, and it didnt hang like it usually does. So i think i got it. yay, all you other guys should try and ditch the detonator 3s and go here, sorry can link http://www.reactorcritical.com/download.shtml#1000
