I need help...my Win2K hangs in Internet Explorer. It seems like it happens more often on certain websites (HardOCP for example). The system will hang but the cursor will still work. If you click around after the hang the system speaker beeps and the cursor hangs as well. It happens pretty regularly but not everytime I am in IE. I have tried updating all of my various device driver files and OS patches but no luck. Anyone else ever see this happen?

Thanks
MC

Use Netscape! Hahaha, just kidding.

Did this problem start to happen after you upgraded to IE6 and then reverted back to 5.5?

Check under your IE>Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Lan Settings and make sure all checkboxes are not checked.

And for your sake, don't use Netscape 6!

Actually I reformatted and installed 5.5 thinking that it was version 6.0 that was the issue. No luck with either. It happens as a page loads and it appears to freeze as the screen is being updated. Bank of America and HardOCP are my biggest offenders.

bwahahaha...
funny. I thought it was only me who got that prob.
Believe it or not, the prob occured not only in IE or netscape, but also in other application.
I fixed it by updating the nvidia driver to the latest version (28.32).
When I used the previous version, it happen very often. As at that time it was the latest official driver, the quick fix solution was to set the AGP to 2x mode. Now running AGP 4x without lockups with the latest driver.
try and let me know how it is. If u already used the latest driver, try to set your AGP to 2x. I Never use leaked driver. for me they suck.

ditto. i had similar lockups, for literally months. I tried many Det drivers with identical results during that period. about a week ago, i installed 28.32 and haven't had a lockup since.

It looks like the move from the detonator 23.11s to the 28.32s have done the trick. I will report back if it hangs again.

Thanks guys,

Just wanted to let you guys know that it happens on my system too.

Windows 2000 Pro
Dual Athlon XP 1700
ASUS A7M266-D
512MB Crucial PC2100
ATI Radeon 8500DV
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Internet Explorer v5.0 SP whatever the latest is...

The lockup only seems to happen if I have one of the following three things open: Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Windows Explorer
But everything else is the same... the ability to move the cursor around but upon clicking it beeps and freezes... though ONE TIME, right after it froze I pressed CTRL-ALT-DEL and behold the typical window that usually pops up when you press those three keys came up and my computer continued to function normally. Mind you that only happened once and I haven't been as lucky since. It used to crash 3-4 times a day but now its down to once every couple days...

There is no correlation regarding which sites it crashes on more often as it happens with Outlook and Windows Explorer as well. I'm thinking it only seems HardOCP and Bank of America are causing more problems because you probably visit those sites more frequently?

Well it seems like its not just a Nvidia thing, as I have an ATI card. I had been wondering if it was because IE/Outlook/Windows Explorer didn't like my dual processor setup =)
