win2k installation problems

during the hardware install & driver search phase, it gave me a BSOD with the following

*** Hardware Malfunction
Call your hardware vendor for support

*** The system has halted ***

altho the duron has been rock solid running UT flyby over 72 hours 8x110 in win98SE, i underclocked the cpu to the default speed of 6x100 in case win2k didnt like it for some reason... rebooted and gave me the BSOD at the exact same spot.

i dont really wanna do anything with the hardware (ie moving cards between the slots), not dying to use win2k either. if there is no simple solution to this, i am going back to good old win98se which never gave me trouble. win2k hotheads pls give me some help, i am very dissapointed getting a BSOD from the installation. never had this proble with numerous 98se installation i have done so far.

system specs:
MSI KT7 pro2
AMD duron 600 (running @ 6x100 cuz of win2k)
crucial cl2 pc133 256mb
onboard AC97 audio
x3dfx voodoo5 5500 PCI
adaptec 10/100 NIC PCI
linksys 10/100 NIC PCI

Even though you said you didn't want to do it. Removing all your cards, cept for your video card and try doing in the install should probably work fine. Then add your cards after you complete the inital installation.

It probably will help, I got the same thing last December on my install. Did the install after taking all but Vid card, stick of ram, just the basics(didn't want to troubleshoot) Install went flawless after that, installed my cards one at a time., Been solid as a rock since.

ah... it was the crappy viaaudio after all. damn win2k and compatibility i am gonna have to get yet another sound card hehe
