Win2k problem

Solution is to ctrl-alt-del and log off then log back in , often the next attempt goes in just fine, but sometimes it takes more than one try.

Also end task explorer.exe and start it again also pushes thru to the desktop. Machine has no spyware on it, no virus, msconfig used to clean startup stuff pretty well.

Only significant stuff installed

Any suggestions?

2k sp4, running newest patches 128mb of ram. Machine rungs great but consistantly gets "stuck at hourglass" after login almost every first boot.

sounds like it might be an issue with acpi/apm and power management support. try enabling/disabling apm in the bios to see if there is any startup improvement. under the device manager either computer or power management check that it detected and installed acpi uniprocessor or an equivalent. you might be able to force acpi or apm installation by updating the driver, if something other is installed.

also if your drive is formatted ntfs, microsoft has a hotfix for startup hangs.
