Solution is to ctrl-alt-del and log off then log back in , often the next attempt goes in just fine, but sometimes it takes more than one try.
Also end task explorer.exe and start it again also pushes thru to the desktop. Machine has no spyware on it, no virus, msconfig used to clean startup stuff pretty well.

2k sp4, running newest patches 128mb of ram. Machine rungs great but consistantly gets "stuck at hourglass" after login almost every first boot.
