Okay i got win2k pro with my new system. i heard it was know for its stability and known for not crashing but i have had more crashes with win2k this week then i have had with win98 within the past couple years. first i got this "dumping of physical memory" message which i believe someone already mentioned here then when i try to enable the overclock on my vid. card it auto restarts, then i run quake a couple times, and it auto restarts... can someone please tell me what the problem is or if it lies within my vid. card?? I do have the service pack and the 4n1 drivers, and the lastest detonater drivers, maybe im missing a few drivers??? thx for the help.

i have an althon classic on KX133, I don't get any problem at all with my win2kpro setup
Have you install VIA 4-1 driver before all the software and driver or after all the software and driver been install?

Not knowing all the details on your system I would set everything to factory default and let it run there till you feel the system is running stable. You could have a memory problem or a power supply issue. I wouldn't try to OC the system until you can set a base mark for stability. Then change things one at a time to see which is causing you the problems. Make note of all the current driver versions for the card (4in1, card driver, directx...ect.) I'm running Win2k with the 12.90 drivers for my GF3 Athlon 1400@1466 GHZ and it screams.

i was kidding. besides... classic athlon never had any problems. usually kt133 series... . . . u know?

the purpose of turning off auto restart was to see the error when it does restart.

Did you do a clean install or an upgrade?

If you did an upgrade then that is your problem.

250W power supply! ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

that could be a big problem. 300W is the standard for all Athlon systems and as you have a pretty hefty 1.2Ghz CPU, you could be having power problems.

ahh, yes power could be the problem....

after turning autorestart off, are you getting a BSOD or does it just restart. If it just restarts with no BSOD, then it probably is a power prob.

yes 4.32, but i dont think the power supply is the prob cause im not really running that much on my mobo (no extra fans or anything like that)

well, i havent gotten another message because i havent been running any applications or games yet, but when i mess around with my quake resolution and try to enable the overclocking feature with NVmax, or load up quake and run the demo a couple times, it will auto restart, but i thats prob. causee i had the auto restart feature on and havent gotten the BSOD yet, so i dont think power is an issue yet, or i hope not

Fans don't take too much power...somewhere like a couple watts, but your thunderbird is sucking up some major power, plus a geforce pro will suck some watts too.

Running quake may increase the power demands (since it will tax your cpu and gpu), and when your power supply can't handle the increased demands, then it'll restart or fail.

BTW, which version nvidia drivers are you using? You should at least have 7.xx, 11.xx, or 12.xx. Avoid the 6.xx drivers.

Have you tried the largePageMinimum fix for Athlon CPUs and Windows2000?

Copy this (italaic below) into a text file and save as LargePageMinimum.reg (File > Save As > Save as Type > All)

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"LargePageMinimum"=dword:ffffffff

Also do you have a network card?

You could even try changing from ACPI (Advanced Configuration Power Interface) to Standard PC.
My PC will crash and freeze under ACPI but with Standard PC its sweet.

Since it seems that you can get it to reboot when you change the video card timing it's could be one of two things, the driver in win2k can't had it or it may cause the motherboard to pull more current thru the agp bus which means it may be a power supply problem. Keep in mind that it may not be the amount of power your computer needs but how clean it is being delivered to the motherboard from the power supply. Run of the mill power supplies tend to stretch thier abilities at the upper ends. If you plan on upgrading your system in the near future you will need a better power supply.

Go to Control Panel, System, Advanced, Startup and Recovery.

Make sure "automatically reboot" is unchecked.

Choose a complete/full memory dump. Just in case I feel benevolent enough to offer to debug your dump.

Check the "overwrite any existing file."

You can tell if your reboots have been caused by BSOD by looking at the system event log. I'll bet lots of money that you've been seeing BSODs and your power supply is fine.

From the system event log, post the STOP code and numbers in parameters.
