Yo guys
I'm trying to get my BP6 system on Win2K, but for some reason the thing won't install! Ack, I have no idea, I thought I had this routine down flat!
I installed it ok the first time, except I realized that I hadn't enabled ACPI in the BIOS (I disabled it for Linux because Mandrake couldn't recognize it for some reason). As far as I could recall, there's no easy way to change the Win2K kernel over to use ACPI except through a clean installation. Having just installed anyway, I thought no big deal, and rebooted. I was planning on just going through the install process again and in the part where it asks me to define partitions, just delete the old one and then make a new one. However, it couldn't even recognize that a harddrive was connected. This was strange. I rebooted with a boot disk, ran fdisk, harddrive there. Just deleted all the old partitions using fdisk and then rebooted again for the Win2K install. Again it couldn't recognize that a harddrive was attached, despite fdisk recognizing it and changing its partition tables.
The harddrive's connected to the ATA66 onboard controller (why would I want it on the ATA33? :rolleyes and I'll note again that it installed perfectly fine when ACPI was turned off. I'm using the latest Win2K drivers from Abit's website for the IDE controller, which again, worked the first time. I've done doohicky changes in my BIOS and creating new partition tables and formatting them and whatnot, ANYTHING to get it to recognize the harddrive again, but to no avail.
SOMEBODY HELP ME! Tried it with ACPI disabled, it'll recognize the harddrive's connected fine. So now I have to figure out why all of a sudden it won't recognize the harddrive with ACPI enabled. Tried reflashing the BIOS too. I would prefer it to have ACPI on, gets really annoying that the computer can't turn off by itself and needs me to press the button. Just some extra few seconds that I have to stay in front of the computer, but can seem like a lifetime when I have something important to do or go to.
