Hi Kids-

Athlon 1200 DFI board(AMD 761 Chipset). Fresh install of Win2K SP4, and drivers, and ALL updates. NAV 9.0 Corp up to date, MS Anti Spy and Adaware up to date.

I have a boot up issue with WinLogon.exe taking up 50-60% resources for the FIRST 2 to 3 Minutes upon Bootup. After that it goes back to normal and I have 99% Free.

This doesn't matter whether I have Network card or modem or both installed. I am bringing it up with network card for updates, and giving back to someone on dialup.

Win2K loaded on 20 GIG drive, and also has GTS-2 Video and 512 meg DDR.
Why does this do this for forst few minutes? I have searched Google, and most istances are either 100% always, or 100% after running a while.
I have also done a Panda Online Scan, and nothing found.

Thanks
Chris

Just a question...but after those 2-3 minutes on startup, does it ever come back?

If not, then I'm not seeing the big deal. If it only occurs during startup, and wont come back untill you reboot...Isn't that normal???

If you haven't already done so, try installing the new post-SP4 Update Rollup 1. I was skimming the release notes and they mentioned a plethora of little glitches that they'd addressed besides the actual security rollup itself. Who knows, maybe one of them is contributing to your issue there.

Hi-

It never seems to have the issue after. Its just that the first few minutes ater desktop is loaded-thins are extremely sluggish until resources get back to normal.

I watched the loaded processes, and it seemed Winlogon.exe just kept runiing until it hit about 3800K and then stopped consuming resources.

If its not an issue- then fine- I am happy to get this box back to the owner. They were concerned about speed(after clearing out the spyware and all running proggies in background I can understand that claim), and I noticed that bootups and getting to a working desktop were better, BUT once you got the working desktop- it was suckking wind for a few minutes.

I did the new Roll-up as well.

Thx
Chris

You might look in Event Viewer for any further clues, too.
