Hi,
I recently purchased the wonderfully affordable eMachine from Walmart.
My intention is to give it to my girlfriends family for Christmas, and be their remote administrator from afar.
Before I can do that however I wanted to set the system up and test it at home, to make absolutely certain once they plug it in in their state, I'll be able to connect and log in with no problems.
It seems though that right out of the box I've already run into an issue: The included OS is Windows7. I understand that this has a "hidden" administrator account. My original intention was to give the receiving family a Power/Standard User account, and use the Administrator access for myself when logging in remotely.
Now, when first setting up the PC I was prompted to enter a username. I entered Administrator, which was reported to have already been taken (this was prior to learning about the existing Admin acct). Figuring I would first set it up as their PC, I entered the receiving family's username 'HouseC', and completed the OS configuration.
Now that I am within Windows 7 I am unable to locate, login, or even view the Admin account or its settings. Originally I was told that I had to use - 'net user administrator /active:yes' in CLI in order to un-hide the adminstrator account settings. When I tried to do this I was met with 'Access Denied'. This is despite the fact that my initially configured user 'HouseC' had Administrator privileges to begin with.
Is there something different about eMachines? All I need to do is enable admin, login as admin, demote the HouseC user to Power User, and go about configuring a remote desktop connection for the main admin account.
Can anyone offer some advice? Thank you very much in advance!
