To me, winamp "sounds" so much better than other players I have tried (full sound, great bass). The programmers did an excellent job with the audio processing. In contrast, WMP and iTunes sound thin and tinny.

I just tend to choose files at random to play, so I use MPC to play whatever file I want at a time. I used to use WinAmp though, but the constant hitting 'Next' to go to a different song made me stop and become the choosy type .

Sounds like a case for the jump-to function of Winamp/Foobar.

foobar will never win any "looks" prizes.

WinAmp does what it says on the tin right out of the box & i've used it for years. I see no reason to change media player when it works perfectly as it is.

I used to...but Foobar now serves my purpose better. I like the ease of use, it's so efficient and streamlined. Who cares how it looks, i've decided. it's the music that matters...

Nope, my choices are entirely random. I just see a folder and go "Ooo, let's listen to that." Jump To was only handy when you already had an artist/song chosen.

Yep, pretty much exclusively. I only use iTunes to load and edit the iPod. everything else audio = winamp.

Actually you can improve Foobar's appearance with themes that make it look far better than stock. I had mine set up to look like Winamp, since I like Winamp's interface but needed FLAC capability.

Winamp's a great standby, though.

Not out of the box, but if you know what you're doing I think it can be one of best looking players that isn't just flash and gimmick.

That's exactly how I feel. Nothing (that I know of) can beat foobar in terms actually playing your music. A sexy look to the program itself is unnecessary because you shouldn't be looking at it that much if it's doing its job right.

And if you do want to get it to look better you can by investing a little time into it.

Aha

Wouldn't be very handy for me, due to the way I sort and name files, I just put it all into one big playlist and use jump when I wanna hear something special

Actually that's exactly how I wanted foobar to look, so I made it so. It doesn't have a neon-green "X-TREME" skin a-la Alienware case because I didn't want that - but it could.

I like foobar for my music I haven't customized it besides setting my hotkeys global and putting a bit of transparency, it looks pretty to me I like the simplistic design and it doesn't get in my way, used it on my old computer so not too much memory would be taken while playing games, carried it over to my new rig.

I'm quite fond of Winamp. More the original than the later semi-bloated versions.

I need it to listen to:

I still use it and think it works great.
However, you need to turn off the Fast Layer 3 and 1/2 EQs. It has some issues..which I notice on certain quiet parts of songs. Listen to Godsmack : Voodoo beginning and you should see what I mean with those enabled.
