According to this MS Blog post (https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com...rver-2012-r2-essentials-for-client-connector/) the update that is listed on that site should fix it.

From the way I read it, is the update is installed on the server and have the win10 client reconnect to it.
This update is indeed installed on the server side, but the Anniversary update of W10 removes all the folders and programs related to Server 2012R2 connectors. Reinstalling the server connector is not possible (at least for me and lots of other users).

Ahh, ok. My understating was that it should work with any of the feature updates (ie the Anniversary Update)
I will say i do not use the connectors and did not personally test it

My Skylake G4400 OC desktop that I use, that was on Win7 64-bit, that I manually upgraded to Win10 1511 64-bit recently, also auto-updated to 1607 tonight some time earlier.

I was planning on updating it, but it did it automagically, without input from me. Oh well, whatever.

Edit: If this happens to anyone else soon - was IIS installed as part of the update? Wondering why I now have an "C:\inetpub\WWWroot" directory...

My desktop had a message to reboot for an update...was still on 1511 afterwords. None of my 3 win 10 devices have done it on their own yet.

Well they are doing a staggered / slow roll out. If you do want it you always upgrade manually

If the recent Win 10 Update breaks the user WebCam try this -http://www.nextofwindows.com/a-quick-fax-if-windows-10-anniversary-update-breaks-your-webcam

I have to wonder whether there really was no way that MS could have employed a bit of code to detect whether a webcam can handle both compressed and uncompressed data streams. It might have been a reasonable mistake to make if there had never been a free Win10 upgrade offer, but since that's the way they went, surely a bit more care when introducing updated features would have been prudent?

The fact that the existence of the registry key seemed to be known at the same time as the issue makes me think that they just didn't give a crap: "We break your stuff, figure out how to fix it yourself".

So far the only thing that I absolutely hate about 1607 is they forced the darn lock screen on system wake up, even on devices that don't have a password. For me this is a non issue personally, but for devices that I've set up for accessibility for users who have very limited ability it is a huge problem. Screen turns off for power save mode, they hit one of their switches to wake it up, and sure the screen comes on, but it is stuck at that lock screen that they are incapable of dismissing. Simply clicking the mouse or hitting a keyboard key will dismiss it, but they can't do that. Every Windows version up through Windows 10 1511 could be set to not "lock" after waking up.

Thanks MS for being downright stupid here. I've tried a dozen workaround ideas and so far nothing aside from not letting the screen to go to sleep - which negatively affects battery life - avoids this problem.

*edit* I should clarify, it seems to only affect certain system configurations. My desktop PC at home does not have this problem. But the Surface Pro 4 - which these users have - does. Why, MS, why does your own product get messed up like that? Sigh.

I just got version 1607 build 14393.187 and it looks a lot better, no problems so far. I like the new look of the lock screen and the taskbar. Unfortunately it reinstalled onedrive which I do not want but I'll uninstall it again. No worries.

Anniversary update broke the wifes laptop and her ability to use her Rhapsody/Napster BS. They are pushing towards another DRM and blah blah other company doesn't want to support it. Their only solution is to roll back the update...sure works short term, until MS decides to force it down peoples throats. Back to piracy. Tired of the hoops and stupidity of a company that wants to control the computer and everything around it. I personally will be sticking with 7. Told her both moves were a bad idea...guess who's got to deal with it and fix it for her?

If I wanted Apple, I'd own an Apple.

The taskbar message area has a counter now and the lock screen, instead of being the windows logo I could never change, now has a slideshow of graphics.

Ahh...I've had that since the Anniversary Update first came out so when you mentioned a "new look" with this newest cumulative update I was wondering if I was missing something.

I have Win ver. 1511 and of course have been waiting breathlessly for the Anniversary Update . A few minutes ago, Windows Update said the update was available, calling it "Feature Update to Windows 10, version 1607". Details said: Install anniversary version.

YES !

On reboot unfortunately there is nothing new on the desktop, the Windows version still reads 1511 and the update history has no mention of today's' install.

A more minor upgrade than I expected.

I ran Windows updates yesterday. My experience with updates has always been positive or at least benign but this time is different. Now I can not run Microsoft Office apps, it crashes a lot, basically misbehaving. It will not convert back to the previous 10 version. I am not sure what to do. Should I buy a copy of Windows 10 and reinstall it with that?

If the update won't uninstall, go back to a restore point. If Windows is activated, you could download and install a fresh copy, but no need to buy it again.

Can you tell us more about the crashes?

I've seen this happen, bits of IIS at any rate. One other thing I've noticed (which may be related) is the nonsensical installation of the Microsoft Message Queue Server as a result of the upgrade (to 10) process.

The Windows 10 is one of the "free" upgrades from last summer. I have tried restore but the system says that there are not any restore points. It had restore points a couple months a go. I have not figured out a pattern of the crashes. It will freeze and then show a message that the app has stopped working, gives a choice of wait or close. If I choose wait it stays frozen, if I choose close the screen goes black and I have to shut if off. The hard drive is a hybrid, "C" and "D" and my computer is not showing anything from the "D" drive.

Well, a fresh install using the Media Creation Tool may be the way to go for you then. As for your other issues, you may want to start your own thread. If none of this started happening until after you grabbed the anniversary version install, a bad driver could be the cause.

I started the update which might be a bad idea, and after several minutes it said it recommended not installing it because I have music files with rights that won't be enabled under the update.

So I cancelled it. Is this update a good idea?

I got that warning too and checked out the Microsoft page about it. It appears to deal with older media files that have some type of drm that Win10 no longer supports.

I went ahead and upgraded and so far I haven't had any issues.

I would recommend you check the support page for this issue.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/25975/windows-10-loss-music-video-anniversary-update

Scroll down to the I have a lot of music and video. How can I check to see if a file is affected? arrow and follow the instructions on how to search your computer for the affected files. If they are important to you I would try and find other sources for the content or not upgrade until Microsoft finds a fix.

Some kind of conflict with the nvlddmkm.sys was awoken by the update. It got so frustrating that I wiped all my programs to get to the skeletal Win10 and started up from there. Things are stable, but boy is it tedious to get everything back how I liked it.

I'm getting a usb issue which might be related to the update. My mouse or kb at different times have stopped working and I had to replug them back in to get them to work again.
