Windows 10 freezing issue

Had a perfect setup with Windows 7 that worked perfectly then upgraded and now having issues. I'd rollback but I cleared the old installation to save space (small SSD) which turned out to be a huge mistake. I do like Windows 10 when it works though so wondering if I can try fix it before going back to 7.

Anyways the problem seems to be it freezes randomly when using the computer (usually just browsing, typing up something), the freezes last about 5-30 seconds and then computer become usable. When frozen, the keyboard seems to not have any power as the caps lock button doesn't light up if I press it. Something that strikes me as odd is that if I'm playing a game or watching a video, it never freezes...ever. Like literally it could be freezing up constantly but if I boot up a game or go on YouTube the freezing stop then resumes when I close the game.

I already refreshed the PC (reinstalled 10) and tried some of the fixes suggested on the web (turning off some stuff, regedit and some HDD shit) but it did nothing. Drivers are all up to date...so yeah I'm kind of lost. I doubt anything is broken since it was running 100% prior to the upgrade and performance while gaming is perfect.

There are also days where the computer never freezes and days where it freezes non-stop. Appreciate the help!

Maybe try a different browser? Times that it freezes and doesn't work is a bit odd to me. I would look a bit harder into what happens when it freezes. Is the computer frozen, or just the mouse and keyboard?

Tried Firefox over Chrome to no avail. It also happens with Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer. Nah, the computer is definitely frozen as the clock gets stuck and goes back on track when it unfreezes.

That is starting to sound more like a virus. What AV are you running? Might want to do a scan.

Thanks for the help.

Hm I'll run a scan and download Anti Malware but this issue did persist after a complete fresh install and I'm still a bit confused why the freezes are not present when a video or game is running?

EDIT; Scans picked up a Driver Sweeper but it didn't solve an issue. Anti Malware found nothing.

Have you checked system file integrity? From command prompt run sfc /scannow and see what it returns. I'm seeing an issue with 10 and errors concerning multiple ownership of folders.

Hi, I checked just then.

It returned no integrity violations.

I realize most of you are doing this simply to help others so I'm grateful for the help.

Could any of you recommend a site perhaps that is a little more active that could help me with this? I'd like to get this fixed ASAP.

Thank you!

I think that you need to perform a clean install of 10 using the 1511l iso. I've had issues with the update in place and ended up clean installing myself to clear them up.

Any errors showing in the event viewer? What brand\model is your motherboard? or computer if bought as a unit?

How do I do that?

Do I need to download the ISO and burn it to a disc? Cause my Windows 10 is upgraded from 7.

Yeah a few, which areas are you looking at in particular? Just the log summary?

Motherboard is an Asus Z87-C. Computer was built by me but worked flawlessly (no freezes, BSOD) until I upgraded to 10.

Under Update and Security-Recovery there is an option to reset your PC. You can choose to save your files or do a clean install. I did a clean install to an updated OS with no problems. No need for ISO. If you have done this already maybe you have a driver issue.

Hm, I've already tried that and it didn't help but you think it's worth another shot?

I got a backup HDD with most of my stuff so it's not too much of a hassle I suppose.

I'd give it a shot. It's pretty painless except for the time involved. I wasn't really having problems with my updated W10 but did it just to make sure everything was clean.
