Windows 2000 Server Desktop gone

Rebooted as usual at the end of the week. No updates done, nothing removed or added all week. Startbar and Desktop are gone. Explorer won't show up in Task Manager. If I try to launch it, no go. Aslo, two WINLOGONs in Task Manager/Processes each time I reboot.

Checked for mIRC as per Microsoft... nope.
Checked for shdocvw.dll in System Root folder as per Microsoft ... nope.

Anyone else had this issue? The server has been well maintained, Trojan and Virus free as far as I can tell....

so when you "loaded into the blank desktop" you hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, loaded up task manager and tried to run explorer through the command prompt no? If you tried so, did you get an error message? I've been in a situation like this and it was due to the fact I had a corrupted/damaged account.

Three different accounts used to test. Explorer "pops" up and then disappears once more... can run anything from the command and run lines, except Iexplorer and Explorer. My concern is that the file itself may be damaged.. thanks though... still trying different htings again today.

Is this a standalone server or part of a domain? If it's part of the domain was anything done recently?

I.E account or profile changes, New DC's, any FSMO transfers?

Thanks for trying... After four days I found a file: shdocvw.dll that had been rewritten from an older storage point... grabbing it from another server and replacing it did the trick... strange one because there's no sign as to why it corrupted in the first place. But the server is back up and stable.
