Windows 2000 shutdown problem

When i try to shut down Windows 2000 it either just hangs (frozen arrow on an empty default backround) or restarts itself. It doesn´t cause any scandisc problems after a hang. I just turn it of and it works as if nothing happens on the next start up. But mostly it just restarts. Works perfect otherwise. But still, annoying like hell. Any help on this, anyone?

I take it your system has the latest service pack installed, as well as the critical updates. I think this was addressed in one of the patches early on.

What's your hardware? Shutdown all software first then attempt a shutdown. If this works then it's a third party software problem. Boot in safemode and then shutdown. If this works it might be a driver problem. Look at www.ntfaq.com for more info.

Win2000 shut down fine for me until I installed the service packs. Now it just shutsdown but it doesn't automatically turn off the computer anymore. Any suggestions?
