Windows 2000 TRUE connect speed?

I have a question and problem that I KNOW has an easy and simple answer... but of course its NEVER that simple for me!

When I dial into my ISP I get my port connection speed (115,000 bps) instead of my actual connect speed. Anyone know how to fix this? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. It feels like my modem is going slow and i want to find out what it is connecting at...it is a generic modem so I dont even know if it is v.90 upgraded yet...

I get that when dial in a while back too, but didn't get it ever since I get my 3com modem, that 115,000bps is actually less then or equal 28.8bps slow..

You need to add the initialisation string "W2" in the modem properties to show actual connection speed.

hmmm well I tried W1 and W2 to the initialization string, but it still reports 115.2 KPS connect...any other ideas?? LoL For some reason this really bugs me...

Try the full AT&FW2 string. I bought a modem from overseas and had to use AT&FW2X3 in order to get mine to work (X3 to ignore dial tone). For some reason, just checking ignore dial tone with AT&FW2 still showed up the port connection speed instead of real speed for me.

Are you using a manufacturer provided modem driver or just one built into W2K? Usually an OEM driver will tell you the facts, at least it did for W9X, but I haven't used a modem since well before W2K came out

Use the NetPerSec utility from PCWorld downloads, and you'll know the effective communications rate, after compression etc.

I second Eeeeal's suggestion. I had 115,000bps connection for over a year until I installed the correct drivers.
Before I just had it installed as Standard 33,6 Modem.
