What I did notice is for some strange reason Windows 7 doesn't seem to superfetch all my ram after booting up it. It does some but not all. Though I think it did sooner or later after I opened and closed enough firefox windows and programs. I prefer the prefetch of windows vista if it has been changed in windows 7. It may just need to be fixed or tuned sense is not even a beta yet.

Maybe they are going to change the way it caches stuff into memory slightly?..Obviously its too early to tell but they must of made some changes to try and improve performance.

They have had a few years to tweak or make improvements to W7 over Vista so I would expect to see some sort of speed improvement even if its slight.

IMO superfetch shouldn't load up in RAM stuff that is rarely used just for a sake of utilizing all RAM. Think of a laptop user who uses one program 99% of times, and 1 time he loaded huge file... why should superfetch read that file to RAM every time he boots up?

It shouldnt, and that's why it doesnt. SF is smarter than that.

I dunno what the other user is experiencing, but it seems to load up the cache shortly after boot just the same for me. I'm assuming this was a rather fresh install, and thus SF didnt know what to load in the first place, so it didnt bother.

Speaking of Windows 7,I wonder how many versions there will be available when it gets released,I hope its not like Vista where I thought there was just too many versions available, you can argue more choice is always better for the consumer but it can also add confusion to average joe on the street.

Well, it's official, no multi-monitor taskbar support or virtual desktops according to Sinofsky. The taskbar I can live with (I don't have a multi-monitor setup) but not having native virtual desktops sucks.

@LostLogic ? the task bar is going to remain anchored to the primary monitor. We built in a bunch of options to allow it to have ?high capacity? and hopefully that will meet the primary needs. The challenges of spanning monitors or different resolutions, orientations, and visualizing across the monitor boundaries were going to yield too many edge cases we felt. One thing to check out with multiple monitors is how the windowing behavior really streamlines things. Have a look at how when you drag to a second monitor you can easily maximize or dock with one motion. Super cool!

@rlopez ? Several (ok quote a few) have been clear in suggesting that we implement ?virtual desktops? in Windows 7. This is something we decided not to include this time. There are just too many challenges / seams in how this works across third party software that we felt it would not be complete. The right way to address this is to create and evangelize a deeper set of window location/memory APIs that can work across all applications (and be implemented there). The challenge is just in arranging Windows in one space and then accidently having another copy of the program in another space?then you get into the ?last one open decides the space and window location?. So it is not unlike the challenges with multiple monitors, but sort of adds to the complexity. That?s just one complexity. We are definitely aware of the level of requests for this.
