Ok so I just set up my mother's home built PC with XP Professional. We have a 3mbps Cable connection with a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router. The PC has a D-Link DWL-520 card in it (so router and card are .11B). Now I've got windows all set up, connected to the router, and it gets online. However, it seems like whenever I log off and log back on or anything of that type then it loses the conecction. It doesn't drop it though, its still connected to the router with a 95% signal strength....I just can't access anything, or ping the router, or any sites.
Now, when the internet DOES work...an "Internet Connection" shows up in the network control panel. Its properties state its "used for connecting to the internet through a residential gateway or another computer." I'm using a router...why do I need that and why is windows doing it? Shouldn't it just see the router as a DHCP server and get an IP? It seems to be getting an IP correctly, but usually that "internet connection" goes away the 2nd time I log in and once again I can not access anything else.
Am I doing something wrong here? I've tried with WEP and not WEP. I've tried using DHCP and just entering all IP/DNS info myself, with no go. Whats wrong here?
