People get pissed at MS for windows bugs because of real reasons.
I like to equate OSes to cars for good analogies.
Say MS made cars. Now cars need a certain amount of security in order to function properly. You don't want to make it easy to steal cars, right?
So MS makes a car. It's easy to steal, and many people get it stolen. So they fix it: They put locks on the doors.
Next a person figures out that you can unlock the doors by popping off the front headlight and twisting some wires around with a pair of pliers. Then many people get their car stolen. People ask why does twisting wires around in the headlight unlock the doors, that's insane! Fix IT!
So MS delays several more months in fixing it, saying that their car is very complex and they have to make sure that all drivers will be unnaffected by the changes. Their solution? Epoxy the headlights into place.
Then somebody figures out that you can do the same with the tail lights, so they glue that in too.
Then somebody figures out that the rear window falls inside the car when you press on it thus allowing "hackers" to steal cars, and anyways lots of rain (worms/viruses/spyware) falls inside the car ruining the inside and that's even more annoying to most people (but it's the user's falt for pushing in the back window, stupid users). So more glue.
Then the wipers sometimes break off when you go past 35. More glue.
Glue, glue, glue, glue.
Then people have to buy more addons to fix the problems. Hell MS recommends it even, for good security practices, of course. For instance many people just keep the doors unlocked now and bolt on huge complex locks made by Norton and similar companies (some locks are free, and that's cool.) to the outside of their doors. Another example is a complex and fragile alarm system that will start going off after somebody has broken into your car.
Plus on top of that When you buy a new car, or reburbish your car it comes to you with none of the problems fixed, and thus you have to keep on coming to MS's service shop. Of course much of the glue is layered heavily, so that each time you apply some glue, you have to drive off and then re(boot)turn to the service station for more layers. Quite a few times actually.
So to fix all this MS finally releases a whole new service pack kit, with this they gut your car and replace much of the interior and mechanicals with fixes designed to repair much of the engineering mistakes they made 3 years ago. A example of this is a more beefy door lock, and head lights whose retaining bolts don't rattle out when you drive it.
Unfortunately now with all the changes, much of your accessories you bought and installed for your car no longer fit up properly and you must obtain new versions, or at least new glue to attatch them. But you have no choice because that's the only way to fix much of the new tricks that criminals have learned on howto easily break into you car.
Oh BTW, you remember the first problem with the headlight and the unlocking of the door? Another guy just figured out that they can reach up under the front fender, pull some plastic out of the way, and pull the wires out from the back of the headlight.
Then when they twist the wires together it unlocks your door...
edit:
Although on the otherhand, Linux may be harder to break into and get 130 mpg, but the seats are made from wooden garden funiture with leather stapled to (bring your own cusion). And Linux engineer's idea of a automatic transmission is to build a robot in the back seat to operate the shifter and the clutch and you have to poke at with a stick to get the gears unstuck sometimes.
I do think the spikes sticking out of the wheels, big mud tires, armor, and the bullet proof glass are a nice touches though.
