Windows XP Install Probs, HELP

ASUS a7v133
AMD XP2000+
512MB pc133
1x80gb
3xcdrom(1 cdrom, 1 cdrw, and 1dvd)
Geforce3 ti200

That is all I have installed on my board when i boot to install Windows XP. It goes normally UNTIL it finished copying files and says completing installation. It then EITHER reboots and then restarts setup or hangs. I have no fix for this. I have tried 6x and 3 cds and nothing has worked. I am so close to giving up, selling eveything and buying a MAC.

Someone PLEASE help me. I need an answer before 3:30 today. Or by the end of the week. PLEASE!!! <!--Signature--></FONT></SPAN>

Remove your Geforce3 and install an older agp or pci card. My Geforce3 hangs my XP install every time. I have to switch to an old Sis 6326 card to install, then switch back to my Geforce. Good Luck.

This may be part of the problem, I remember hearing about others who have had similar problems with new AGP video cards on fresh installs of XP (the solution for them has always been use another video card, than swap once Windows is up and running).

I run a GF 3 Ti 200 and havent had problems installing windows, however I have a new 845E mobo.

I am going to go out and buy an MSI motherboard, the Ultra2 BSR (wireless, raid, and usb2.0) and some ddr ram. Then try again.

But I am going to try the other video card first. Thanks.

Can anyone else comment on the compatibility between XP2000+ or higher and PC133 ram???

Looking at your specs above,I hope you`ve a good quality PSU,I`ve seen install problems that were caused by a poor quality PSU.

Now that you mention it, the fan right behind the cpu fan doesnt turn and I wonder if it is because of lack of power. Ill try to unplug some stuff and try a different video card etc. Thanks guys.

OK, that could definitely be a problem. But it's not going to be simple lack of power that's the issue. A 250W supply should be able to handle the needs of your rig, even if all 3 opticals were spinning up simultaneously. Check your fan wiring or try a different fan.

Now, what Mem's saying is still important - you might have enough power in terms of watts, but if the voltages are inconsistent, that could cause another component to flake out. That's why Mem is saying you need a quality PSU. Quality != Watts. But figure out the fan problem first.

I had the same problem , it was caused by my video card. Used an old pci card and then switched back when I was done. It was fine then.

I am going to try a different agp card, put in my geforce2 mx400 in and see what happens. If not, it is a time to visit the computer shop for an upgrade. Thanks all of you. I will be on later to read more replies.
