Windows XP Pro BSOD

Hey all. My computer is giving me a bsod on cold boot.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

STOP: 0x00000050 (0xE1577000, 0x00000000, 0xF95DD77A, 0x00000001)

And it blames this on "IPVMon.sys"

Once I see the bsod, I am able to just reboot and it works fine. I cannot find any information on this file on google. Can someone tell me what is the matter please or if i can just replace this file.

Is this on the ECS board you list in your sig? Sounds to me like the i845 "cold boot issue". Are you running overclocked? Try under-clocking and see if it goes away. Also, what PSU do you have?

Yea, it is on the ecs board. I'm not overclocked and I have a generic 400w power supply, but it hasn't given me trouble before.

Is this a fresh install of XP, or have you had it up and running for a while? Did this just start out of nowhere, or did you install a program and then it started? By chance have you searched Microsoft's knowledge base for info?

Also, you might try this question in the mobo forum. Lots of knowledgeable ECS guys there..

Who provides the IPVMon.sys? What hardware is it the driver for? Definately check if there are updates to that, as well as see if it can be disabled (and if that resolves the problem). XP does a pretty good job at 'fingering' the culprit, so if it thinks that driver causes the issue, it's worth tracking down.

Yea it just started happening outta the blue, this was a preexisting install of xp. Hmm, I did recently install a new burner, but I am not sure if this started happening at the same time. After all, ipvmon.sys sounds like some sort of video card/monitor file.

I am not sure what ipvmon.sys is for. I looked for it on google and it was a no-go. I am hoping someone on here knows what it is.

search for the file on your system, then right click and properties. see if there is an owner of the file. something like cisco or symantec. also where is it found? I have seen something like this before and it falls into 3 catagories:
1)zone alarm
2)faulty memory (based on the stop code). may only happen when your machine gets hot.
3)cisco or some other vpn product or internet access software (if you are unlucky enough that your isp requires this).

I searched for the file and got no results. I had it set to show hidden files, even protected os ones.

Its probably in windows\system32\drivers, check from a dos box.

I may have been mistaken. I see ivpnmon.sys in there, but I'm not sure if i misread it. I will reproduce this and see if this is the file I am realy looking for.
