Windows xp pro startup problem

Hello, when I boot up xp pro, the computer goes through the standard start up sequence, but after the windows logo with the animated loading bar finishes the screen blanks and then the monitor goes into sleep mode. I have to run in safe mode to use it. Any ideas as to what causing this?

I would first try to boot to last known good configuration (pushing F8 while booting will give you the menu to select this) and then if that does not work try system restore.

Sounds like for some reason that your monitor is out of scan range in the normal mode, like the refresh or the resoloution is to high. Try settings things to a low setting in safe mode, then rebooting into the normal windows mode.

Sounds like somethings messed up in the windows configuration, either a driver thats bad or an application thats preventing you from booting in. Whatever you just installed previously, try taking it off and rebooting

You are at the point in the boot process where it should be switching from VGA mode to whatever your desktop is set for (i.e. 1024x768, or whatever) If your video driver has become corrupted for whatever reason, it will do this. Use F8 while booting to get your DOS type start menu and select VGA mode. This will load everything except the SVGA drivers and confirm the problem. You will then have access to your CD or the Internet on a normal level (howbeit large and ugly) and this will allow you to reinstall the drivers for your video system.

Thanks for all the advice.
I rebooted and went into safe mode. from there I chose vga and got in.
Once there, I was able to recall my video settings and evrything seems to working again.
