WinME Lag Problems...

A strange phenomenon happens every 2 hours of my computer's life...it lags like a m0f0. I'm trying to figure out what the problem is...i think it might be my RAM...might be my processor...don't really know. Well here are my specs.

Abit BH6
566@952 Celeron (I did bring it down to 850 to see if it was RAM...but still not sure)
eVGA Geforce2 MX (OCed a bit...might bring that down too...just because)
SB Live Value
128mbs of PC-100 RAM

You probably need to disable System Restore. This is a utility that is always running and takes "inventory" of your system at certain intervals. When it does this it can cause the symptoms you described. Right click on My Computer, click Properties, click Performance tab, click File system, click Troubleshooting tab and check "Disable System Restore". You can always undo this if it doesn't solve your problem.

What seems to be happening? Is the HD running constantly at this point? What programs are you running at the time? Is the cursor moving very slowly also? Do you have any scheduled tasks enabled? Could be that you're computer is writing excessively to the swap file. Is your HD set to dma and/or is it dma compatible? Is this 2 hrs of idle time, browsing, playing games etc.. Need more info.

it happens when i'm both using the computer activily, like CS or something or IRC, or when I'm idlin'.
the mouse gets really laggy and all the programs act the same way also..very sluggish
my HD is set on DMA mode and it is DMA compatible

Maybe after that much time the system is getting hot? I have no such problems with WinMe and I dont think its the culprit.. you may possibly have some utility doing maintenance in the background.

well i just disabled all the utilities that would run in the background (antivirus..etc)
i'll see if nethign changes, thx guys
