when I hit ctrl-alt-del in xp pro, I am taken straight to the task-manager rather than the win2k style set of six choices. So I can't find where to lock my computer from ( + do other things from that dialog ). Anyone know ?
Thx

I'm having the same problem. Anyone with ideas? Its really annoying. CTRL-SHIFT-ESC does the same thing as alt-ctrl-del. I can post a pic if needed

You can make it look like win2k, all you have to do is go to the user account setup and change the way users log on. Remove the welcome screen and you should be set everytime you do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and you can still use the windowsbutton+L to lock it... This however disables the multi user functionality... Oh, BTW, can someone please reply to any of my posts! I have like 4 up and they have 0 ZERO replies!

No, I just get something that pretty much acts like a Alt-Tab function. The only functional difference is that I get a performance indicator in the bottom right near my clock.

(BTW, let me know if the link don't work)

Ok, try this link....

screenshot (Geocities, so you know what to do)

Boethius: Thanks for your reply. That fixed part of it, but as the screetshot shows, its still not what used to be. I can now press alt-ctrl-del adn it brings up the 6 options, but now when I click task manager, I get only the screen as shown in teh screenshot. before there were tabs on the task manager window, letting you see performance, network usage, and other things. Do you know what I'm talking about. I had it beofre in XP, so I think that's not the problem.

Hmm...thats just too weird. I don't even know how you got it to look like that. Perhaps something is missing? Or an odd setting in windows.

Oops...misread the post. Double-click somewhere in the grey area of the Task Manager.

Another problem with XP. In win 9x ctrl-alt-del opes up the close dialog box every time even when a program crashes. I XP when a program running in full screed crashes, ctrl-alt-del does not make the task manager apear instantly over everything so I have no choice but to hard reboot the system.

Anybody know how to force task manager to apear over all programs on ctrl-alt-del and avoid restarts on every program crash.

Thanks

Go to your start button, type in:
control userpasswords2

Click on the "advanced tab"
At the bottom, click on 'secure login' check box, apply.

Also:
Go into control panel, select 'user accounts'
Select 'Change the way users log on or off'
Uncheck the box 'Use the welcome screen'

It should work right away...
