winXP newbie problems

hi i just installed winXP pro for the first time, and i have the following problems:

1) detonators driver doesnt seem to work: i downloaded the 30.82 from nvidia.com (i checked that they were the win2k/XP version) and installed without problems. but the openGL and direct3d tabs are nowhere to be found and when i check the drivers version for my video adapter it says that they were provided by microsoft and the version is 5.01.2001. i think that that its because the drivers didnt install at all, i tried with another version of drivers i had for win2k, and the same thing happened

2) LAN: i have fixed IPs in my both PC. one is a W2k, and the other is my new XP. they ping each other, and i can see the shared HDD & printers of the W2K system. but the W2k system cant login in my XP because it ask user and pass info (i have tried all the user and their pass). i cant share my XP internet connection either, i supose its because the same reason

1. If you don't see those tabs, the drivers didn't install right. Retry and be sure no anti-virus software.

2. Lookup "simple file sharing" in XP help. Specifically, how to turn it off....req'd reading since it's pretty stupid thing MS came up with. Be sure all your user accounts actually have passwords. XP tries to shut down file sharing otherwise. When logging into the XP box from the w2k, precede your username with the computer name of the XP box and a \. For instance: mycomputer\myusername. I've had this problem several times with XP but every time I have to go re-figure out the solution. It's like a one click fix but again the solution has left me. Try the above, I think one of them will fix you up.

1) im pretty sure that i wasnt using anyantivirus software.

2) i tried your mycomputer\username tip, and it worked!!. but I still have to figure out how to share the internet conection.

internet sharing is working. but the XP box ask for pass everytime the 2K boots.

hi, i had the same sort of problem a while back, with a RC1 Beta copy of XP. i fixed it by using the 21.85 drivers.
But as your using a Legit copy, try this.
the drivers obviosly didnt install, im betting cos XP is set to block the use non-WHQL drivers, so do the following.
disable the driver blocking - do this somewhere in control panel, under system
re-install the drivers.
if not working then, then try a different version like the 40.xx drivers. the 23.11/27.50/29.42 seem to be the most stable and trouble free.

i tried de-activated the driver blocking thing, and tried with some WHQL driver i found. (40.something)
i have tried with 3 different drivers and its the same thing.

my question now is: does all these drivers support TNT video cards, because i tried to force windows to use the driver, and TNTs didnt appear on the list. the oldest card there was the TNT2

i take it you have a TNT then?

Check the nVidia Website to see it its still supported.
or
search google for a XP or 2K(same drivers used in both OS`s) drivers for a TNT card.

if not the the only thing that i can suggest is gettin a new, more up-to-date card. if you do get a new card then dont get any of the GeForce Cards that have "MX" in the chipset description. cos they will only be glorified GF2 cards. Try a 8500 128mb or a GF4 Ti4200 128mb. Cheap(ish) fast and fully DX8 compatible.
