Wireless Access Points

I have a laptop with a wireless NIC (Netgear WG511) that I use at school. I would like to be able to have wireless internet at home also. I think i need a wireless access point??? Is that correct? Do i just get one of those and hook it up to one of the ports on the router at home? Is there anything else I need to do. Can anyone reccomend a good wireless access point if that is what i need? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
