I'm going to be moving into a house this fall with 5 other roommates. We have decided to set up a wireless network to share the internet connection. We will be using a Netgear WGT624 router. I plan to buy Netgear's PCI adaptor card to utilize the "Super G" technology 108mbps speed. I'd like to know if I would notice any difference in ping times when playing online games in this situation when compared to a wired solution? Would there be a difference big enough to motivate me to use an actual ethernet cable?

yes, there will be a difference. There is more latency in radio then wires. enough to bother you? I don't know your tolerance. btw, Super 108 is a gimmick

It depends how important these games are.

If you enjoy Gaming and do it for fun it would not matter, if your Manhood is on the line use Wire.

gaming on wireless is a case-by-case issue. I know some that use it with no problem, and others have horrible lag that are fixed by going wired.

The only real way to tell is play a game on wireless, if its laggy go wired, if not stay with it.

If your environment is condusive, and the gear your using is decent hardware, and if your the ONLY one on the AP at the time, you can add 1ms to your pings. Shared medium however so if your only using one AP and you have 5 guys trying to game connected to a server on the internet, it's not going to be a pleasant experience.

Also if you environment is not condusive, ie.... there are other WLAN's in your area, or you have 2.4Ghz cordless phones, or any other of the myriad of things that can affect 802.11g transmissions, or you just buy crappy gear, again, no fun there. Online gaming probably won't be enjoyable.

So the answer to your post ? is, maybe, maybe not.
