Okay, I bought a PCI Card (TrendNET TEW-421PC/TEW-423PI). I am running Windows 7 64 Bit and I just installed the drivers straight from the CD before I put the card in. I put the card in, and it booted up and recognized the drivers...but the connection is TERRIBLE. It recognizes the network and allows me to connect, but it's an awful signal. My USB wireless was better than this. The compatability said Vista 32/64 bit....but from what I've read on forums, it is not compatible with W7 64 bit. Also, I've read it is a Realtek RTL8185L (or something like that) so I installed those drivers with no luck. I am using my USB wireless right now, and thinking of what I can do. Should I just install Vista 64 bit? lol....any help is appreciated.

One bad thing about many pci adapters is they have antenna that place them low to the ground (if your pc is on the ground) and in rather enclosed spaces. Experiment with moving your system around a bit and see if it resolves.

Also, is the speed terrible as well, or is just the signal meter showing low?

Speed is terrible and the signal meter shows low. The wireless router is actually under me (since I am on the top floor) so I'm not sure if that effects it. Should it always be higher?

If the OS switch doesn't work out I'm wondering if you have used NetStumbler, inSSIDer or similar to see if other AP's are broadcasting on your channel. Many default to channel 6 and there could be a lot of noise because of that.

If there is, a channel change, say to ch.11 could be the ticket.

Switched to XP 64 bit yesterday. PCI Wireless card works beautifully. Guess it really was a OS issue....support is limited to Vista and XP 32/64 bit, and apparently Windows 7 32 bit, but not Windows 7 64 bit

Well that sucks to have to downgrade your OS just to use that adapter. I have two of those adapters myself, and right now they are collecting dust because I replaced them with Asus wireless N adapters. Signal strength is finally 100% while in the same room, and network performance is much improved.

Yeah, it DOES suck but it's okay, this is my gaming rig. I don't keep anything important on it.
