wireless networking/printing

I have a HP (hardwired) to a WRT54GS. 1 laptop and one destop are also wirelessly connected. I have folder/printing sharing enabled on all machines. However I have only been able to get the laptop/destop to share files by using NetBui (per EZlan.com). The HP isn't able to see anything (and it does allow me to have the IP box checked in advanced protocals). In any case the printer when connect to the laptop (a canon MP530) is visable to the desktop... but not able to be used (when setting up the printer "add printer" permission is denied.

Could someone please help!??

What is your OS?
Netbui is your only option?
Are you able to login as an adminstrator?

Another thing to check is:
My Computer > Tools > Folder Options
Click on the "View" tab and the last check box (if using XP Pro, not sure if it's different for other versions) it says "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" uncheck that, I have read that this causes issues with sharing files over certain networks and I always disable it as rule of thumb for my networks without any problems.

All the systems are operating using XP Home. I am admin on all 3 accounts. Netbui is all that worked. I had the IP set up when the firewalls were down and that worked on the laptop/desktop but not the HP. Once I put firewall on... it didn't work anymore, so I installed Netbui and tried that.

I'll look for the simple file sharing... though I haven't seenit.

Hi Kleinwl,

I'm no expert at networking, but I had the same problem with the permission denied error when trying to share my printer wirelessly. I had to install the NWLink NetBIOS and NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS protocol in order to see other computers on my network, share/print. You can give that a shot and see if it works, hope that helps.
