Wireless problems

So a few of my friends are having some problems with their wireless internet at their apartment. There's four girls and they all have laptops, all running wireless. They set it up a few days ago and it hasn't ever worked correctly. They have the modem connected to the wireless router properly and installed the software and encrypted the connection (I was pretty proud of them). The problem is when you download something, whether it be a program, virus definition updates (Ad-Aware, Spybot, AVG), or anything, it'll start downloading, then stop at a random percentage and just stay there. It happens with all the laptops, even mine and I don't live here, so it's gotta be something with the router or something doesn't it? Anybody have any ideas?

Interferrance.

change channels on the router/AP to 1, 6 or 11 to see what works best.

How do you change channels? There's no physical switch...I'm guessing it's a software thing?

Channel assignment is an entry in the Wireless Router's menus.

Read the manual and try different channels.
