You shouldn't get any noticable additional latency from wireless, usually about 3ms. As far as which one to get, first you need to decide on if you want 802.11b, a, g, etc. I like linksys products and usualy buy them but as with most home level networking gear, its mostly personal preference. Get whatever has the features you like most, or whats on sale. Maybe you want a router that has removable antennas so you could put your own on. Maybe thats not important to you and you want a more configurable firewall. Maybe you just want a cheap one that does wireless.... If you already have a router maybe consider a wireless access point for some of the additional options that can give you.
