may have missed search result

Got the wireless connection all set up.

The synchronization manager on the laptop lists the LAN connection, but not the wireless, and doesn't list the P: drive i now have mapped to this computers directory

Does anyone know how to see that P: wireless entry on my laptops xp synch. manager ? thanks

Have you right-clicked the P: drive and selected "Make Available Offline"?

On the laptop.

You may also need to go into Folder Options (from the Control Panel), click the Offline Files tab, and use the checkbox to enable offline files.

Edit:
Just to make sure we're on the same page... When you make the P: drive (a mapped network drive) available offline, the laptop will store a copy of anything in the P: drive locally in its offline files folder. And those files can be synced during log on, log off, or on demand by the user initiating the sync. You said "i just want the laptop to synch its hard drive up with the wireless P: drive", which isn't exactly how offline file sync works. With offline files synchronization, your laptop is keeping a local copy of anything in the P: drive. Your statement I quoted almost sounds like you want a copy of everything on your laptop's disk copied up to the P: drive, which you would not accomplish by making the P: drive available offline like I suggested.

ah, sorry, what it is,

on this wired desktop computer i have a physical directory which i have shared

on the wireless laptop, i have mapped that physical desktop shared directory, onto the laptops virtual p: drive

I want to update a physical directory on the laptop, with whatever is in the physical directory on the desktop (the physical directory on the desktop is mapped to the virtual p: drive on the laptop)

OK. Then, yes you want to make the mapped P: drive on the laptop available offline. As long as Offline Files is enabled in Folder Options, it should be as easy as right-clicking it and selective "Make Available Offline". Then you can go into mobsync.exe and click Setup... to define your sync settings for Logon/Logoff, Idle, Scheduled, etc.

Also, as far as LAN connection being an option in the sync settings, and wireless not... I believe that LAN will apply to your wireless adapter too.

thanks in

start>accessories>synch>setup how do i add something to the list of checked items ?

under my LAN connection there is nothing listed and no button to 'add' an item (the item would be the directory i can access thro the p: drive, on the laptop screen)

Like I said earlier...did you right-click the P: drive and select "Make Available Offline"? It needs to be configured for offline files before you can setup the sync settings.

I see yep.

do you know what point it saves the p: drive to the local laptop drive ? does it give me a choice of where to put the p: drive (actually a sub directory of p: )

When it says 'make available offline', it's a microsoft way of saying "save files locally, so you can access them when offline'

I don't think you can pick where to save it. The OS creates a folder at %windir%\CSC that it uses for storing copies of Offline Files.

Once the P: network drive is made available offline, it will appear as a drive regardless of whether the laptop is on the network with the server that hosts the P: drive or not. So, when your laptop is working in Offline Mode, you will be able to access the files by browsing it the same way you would with it on the network, but the OS will actually be retrieving the files from %windir%\CSC.
