Woke up to DOA computer

Hi folks,

This isn't a built-incorrectly problem, since this box has been running stably for months. However, sometime during the night, a component failed (or so I presume) and shut it down. The question is, which?

Symptoms: Won't power on at all. The onboard LED is in sleep/soft off mode, and if I hit the power switch, about 10% of the time it blinks to red (on) status for a fraction of a second. The rest of the time, nothing happens whatsoever. No fans begin to spin. No other signs of life.

What would be causing it to fail to attempt to boot at this point? Some help narrowing it down would be greatly appreciated.

PS: SEASONIC S12 600 Watt
Motherboard: ASUS P5B DELUXE
CPU: Core 2 Duo E6300
Memory: 2x 1G OCZ DII800
Video: EVGA 8800GTS
HDD: 2x Western Digital 320SATA

(Note: Nothing was overclocked)

DOA = Dead on Arrival so I don't think you could wake up to a DOA computer that you've been using for months

So it was on last night and this morning it was off? Maybe a fan failed and something overheated. Try testing the CPU fan, the power supply, and the video card fan at least to see if the fans are working. Just turn the power supply on either from a different motherboard or there's a way to short it out and turn it on without a motherboard by connecting 2 of the wires. Get more info on that though.

Is the PC speaker plugged in or do you have one? If not, get one and see if it's beeping.

Have you tried unplugging it and reseting the BIOS? Or simply unplugging it or turning off the power supply switch, I have to do this sometimes.

Or unplug everything then replug it all in (ie cpu, memory, video, power connections). This has worked for me a few times, surprisingly.

But anyways, if something really is dead, my bet goes to the power supply. Try hooking up another one if you have it, anything with a 24 pin connector would be good enough to test it.

This doesn't sound like anything is broken though. It sounds like you haven't done any testing at all besides pushing the power button. Not much help to us.
